AE617 Operate A Small Business Skill Set is suitable for anyone working in a small business or thinking of starting their own small business. The units in the skill set are nationally recognised and may be used as credit toward further qualifications.

This course is 100% free for everyone living and working in Perth or Peel, Western Australia including all learning material, access to student support and class training.

Course Information

WA Government subsidies are available for this course. To be eligible under the Jobs and Skills WA - Skill Ready program, you must be:

  1. living and working in Perth, Western Australia;
  2. have left school;
  3. be one of the following:
    • Australian citizen;
    • New Zealand citizen;
    • Permanent Resident; or

AE617 Operate a Small Business Skill Set consists of 5 units of study:

  • BSBTEC301 Design and produce business documents
  • BSBTEC302 Design and produce spreadsheets
  • BSBWHS307 Apply knowledge of WHS legislation in the workplace
  • BSBESB403 Plan finances for new business ventures
  • ICTWEB306 Develop web presence using social media

The units in the Skill Set are nationally recognised and may be used as credit towards further qualifications.

The maximum duration of this Skill Set is 6 months.

Students attend 10 weekly online webinar classes and are required to allocate additional online study towards completing course material.

Depending on your ability, knowledge and time available, you may be able to complete the course within the class timeframe.

Online Class Dates

Weekly classes starting Monday, 25 July 2022. Classes are from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.

This Skill Set is delivered via a combination of classes and online study. This is a very effective way to learn offering students hand-on learning with expert trainers along with the opportunity to complete studies at their own pace, in their own time and environment. Class attendance is required for this course, there are 10 weekly classes covering all learning concepts for the units of competency.

Digital (non-printable and non-editable) training manuals are included as part of the course.

The course content is accessed via our online student portal extra learning materials and classroom recordings also available.

Pre-course

Before starting this course, you will be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) questionnaire. This quick questionnaire is used to determine your LLN skill level so that we can best support you in your studies.

Units

The Unit assessments are completed using a variety of methods and and comprise of theoretical and practical exercises. Assessments will be conducted during the classroom sessions under the supervision of your trainer.

To complete this course you will need access to

  • a computer with a reliable internet service.
  • a working camera and good quality microphone to facilitate the interactive online class.
  • Microsoft Word and Excel.

The Units of Competency in Operate a Small Business Skill Set are nationally recognised and may be used as credit toward further study including:

Certificate III in Business
Certificate IV in Accounting & Bookkeeping
