Certificate III in Business

Let's take a look at what you are going to learn and important course information to know before you enrol.

In order to undertake training through South Australia Training Priority List, prospective students must meet the following eligibility criteria:

  • be aged 16 years or over, and no longer at school
  • live or work in South Australia
  • be an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident (includes humanitarian entrant), temporary visa holder approved by SA government, or a New Zealand citizen
  • Undertake in person all parts of the UAN (Upfront Assessment of Need) process if you want to access a government subsidised qualification, regardless of your prior educational attainment. This is to ensure students get the support they need to successfully complete their training. The UAN is delivered face-to-face at our Adelaide office.

Students are required to complete their course in accordance to an agreed training plan within a specified time.

Student progress will be monitored and reported to the Department for innovation and Skills (DIS). Students who persistently fail to participate in their course without explanation will be reported to the Department for innovation and Skills (DIS).

Students are required to complete a training and employment survey within three months of completing or discontinuing subsidised training.

Course Fees

Under the South Australia funding, the course fees are:

  • $850.50 for non-concession
  • $262.50 for concession*

* Proof of concession (a current Commonwealth Government Concession Card) must be provided before enrolling. This is in addition to the eligibility criteria for Traineeships.

Payment Plans

  • An administration fee of $100 is added for this option
  • All you need is a valid credit or debit card
  • Pay a $250 deposit at commencement of course

Learn to apply critical thinking and excel in collaborative communication and engagement in the workplace. On completion of this course, you will be able to set up, design and document business documents, and complete simple bookkeeping tasks and financial calculations. You will also learn the latest practice in using social media tools to drive business engagement.

BSB30120 Certificate III in Business is assessed under the Principles of Competency-based training, students have to demonstrate their ability to do all activities in each Unit of Competency. There are 13 Units of Competency in this course:

Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)

RPL is available to all students. With this option you will be required to put together a portfolio of your work to demonstrate a good understanding of the learning outcomes in the course. The portfolio of previous or superseded qualifications and on the job experience, will contain

We find that for many students, RPL is a more complex process than completing the self paced study and doing the activities which is more straight forward process than RPL, unless you have sound experience in all the units of study and are able to provide a portfolio of evidence.

You will have up to 13 months to complete BSB30120 Certificate III in Business. There is no minimum time frame, students familiar with business concepts may complete the course much faster.

As an online course, the time it will take to complete is flexible and dependent on your ability, knowledge and time available. It is important that you choose a pace that suits your needs.

To complete all units in this course, you will need:

  • A reliable internet connection as all data files and learning activities are available via our student platform.
  • A computer with a Microsoft Windows operating system.#
  • Microsoft Word and Excel.

We will provide links and instructions to download MYOB Student Edition Software.

# Mac Users, Tablets and MYOB
MYOB software cannot be downloaded to tablets including Chromebooks and since 2020, MYOB is not compatible with Apple’s operating system.

If you only have access to a Mac computer, we recommend you first contact Apple to confirm if the following options are feasible on your computer:

  • purchase and install on your mac a windows emulator such as "parallels" to run windows on a Mac at your own cost; or
  • use the free inbuilt Mac Boot Camp Assistant on your Mac computer and purchase a Windows OS software licence. 

Note: Applied Education and MYOB are unable to support issues relating to a Mac computer.

With this in mind, we aim to make the tasks relevant to what you will experience in the real world. The purpose is not to pass or fail, rather to become competent using these skills which you can then apply in the real world.

As BSB30120 Certificate III in Business is a nationally recognised course, there are some mandatory requirements* that must be completed by all RTO students.

Pre-course

Before starting this course, you will be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) questionnaire*. This quick questionnaire is used to determine your LLN skill level so that we can best support you in your studies.

Introductory Requirements & Units

The Introductory requirements include an Oral Communication Skills Assessment* and a Work Health and Safety Assessment*.

The Unit assessments and examinations are completed using a variety of methods and are submitted via our online student portal. They are open book, from either your home, office or classroom, and comprise theoretical and practical exercises.

Accounting unit assessment FNSACC304 uses MYOB software, we provide the Student Edition of MYOB.

If you require supervision of assessments by Applied Education, additional costs may apply. Refer to Student Handbook.
