The course is conducted via a combination of face-to-face and online learning with 4 face-to-face classes. Classes run from 8.30 am to 4.30pm and are held at Applied Education, Level 1, 524 Hay Street, WA 6000. Located close to Perth Train Station.

Course Information

This FEE-FREE course will prepare you with the skills and knowledge to improve your business security and threats.

On completion of this course, you’ll gain practical knowledge on how to:

  • Identify and mitigate common cyber threats
  • Implement essential security measures across your business
  • Train staff to recognize and respond to online risks
  • Safeguard sensitive customer and company information

WA Government subsidies are available for this course. To be eligible under the Jobs and Skills WA - Skill Ready program, you must be:

  1. attend all classes in Perth CBD;
  2. living and working in Western Australia;
  3. have left school;
  4. be one of the following:
    • Australian citizen;
    • New Zealand citizen;
    • Permanent Resident; or

AE781 Introduction to Cyber Security Skill Set consists of 3 units of study:

  • BSBXCS301 Protect Own Personal Online Profile from Cybersecurity Threats
  • BSBXCS302 Identify and Report Online Security Threats
  • BSBXCS303 Securely Manage Personally Identifiable Information and Workplace Information

The units in the Skill Set are nationally recognised and may be used as credit towards further qualifications. On completion you will receive a Statement of Attainment.

This Skill Set is delivered via a combination of face-to-face classes and online study.

This is a very effective way to learn, offering students hands-on learning with expert trainers along with the opportunity to complete studies at their own pace, in their own time and environment. Class attendance is required for this course, there are 4 weekly face-to-face classes held in Perth CBD covering all learning concepts for the units of competency.

You will have up to 6 months to complete AE781 Introduction to Cyber Security Skill Set.

The time it will take to complete is flexible and dependent on your ability, knowledge and time available. Students familiar with the learning concepts may complete the course faster.

Students attend 4 weekly classes and are required to allocate additional online study towards completing course assessments.

To complete this course, you will need access to:

  • a laptop to bring to face-to-face classes.
  • A reliable internet connection at home to complete assessments as all data files and learning activities are available via our student platform.

You will also need to have basic computer skills e.g. know how to download files, open and save documents.

Applied Education will provide free WIFI during face-to-face classes.

Digital (non-printable and non-editable) training manuals are included as part of the course.

The course content is accessed via our online student portal extra learning materials and classroom recordings also available.

Pre-course

Before starting this course, you will be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) questionnaire. This quick questionnaire is used to determine your LLN skill level so that we can best support you in your studies.

Units

The Unit assessments are completed using a variety of methods and comprise of theoretical and practical exercises. Some assessments will be conducted during the classroom sessions under the supervision of your trainer, the remainder will need to be completed by students during their own time.

The Units of Competency in Introduction to Cyber Security Skill Set are nationally recognised and may be used as credit toward further study including:

Certificate III in Business

With further advanced training in cyber security, you can pursue roles such as:

  • Cyber Security Support Officer: Assist in protecting an organization's information systems and networks.
  • Security Penetration Tester: Identify and address vulnerabilities by simulating cyber attacks.
  • Information Systems Security Support Officer: Maintain and enhance the security of information systems.
