Queensland Government Funding for FNS50222 Diploma of Accounting

Prior to enrolling in FNS50222 Diploma of Accounting you must have completed the following units of competency or their equivalents.

1. FNSACC321 Process financial transactions and extract interim reports (equivalent to FNSACC311)
2. FNSACC322 Administer subsidiary accounts and ledgers (equivalent to FNSACC312)
3. FNSACC418 Work effectively in the accounting and bookkeeping industry (equivalent to FNSACC408)
4. FNSACC421 Prepare financial reports (equivalent to BSBFIA401)

These units may have been achieved through completing a prior qualification including Accounting Principles Skill Set or Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping.

If you have no prior qualification or any old qualification that does not the entry requirements, you can enrol directly in the Queensland Government funded FNS40222 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping.

FNS50222 Diploma of Accounting is assessed under the Principles of Competency-based training, students have to demonstrate their ability to do all activities in each Unit of Competency. There are 11 Units of Competency in this course.

Course Fees and Payment Plans

We understand not everyone has the financial resources upfront to invest in training, so we offer a 9-week payment plan to get you moving faster towards your future.

• An administration fee of $40 is added for this option
• All you need is a valid credit card
• Pay first weekly instalment at commencement of course
• Remainder to be paid over eight equal weekly instalments. Total of nine payments.

The maximum duration is 12 months with a minimum of 1200 course hours. However, this is a guide only. As your learning is delivered online, the time it will take to complete is flexible and dependent on your ability, knowledge and time available, it is important that you choose a pace that suits your needs.

You will have access to the following resources:

• Video recordings for key learning concepts.
• Digital (non-printable and non-editable) training manuals for units BSBTEC402, FNSPAY515, FNSTPB411, FNSTPB412 are included as part of the course at no additional cost. Hard copies can be ordered if you require them.
• For all other units, textbooks are required to be purchased separately from the publisher. Applied Education students receive a discount when ordering through our supplier, full details are provided with enrolment. Total cost for these textbooks is approximately $700 for paperback editions, or $350 for digital editions.
• Three free learning bundles

This course is offered as online study. This means that you will complete all study units and assessments through our online student platform.

The FNS502122 Diploma of Accounting has been developed to give you flexibility so that you can study at your own pace, in your own time and in your own environment. Pre-course

Before starting this course, you may be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) assessment* which is used to determine your skill level so that we can best support you in your studies.

Introductory Requirements & Units

The Introductory Requirements include an Oral Communication Skills Assessment and a Work Health and Safety Assessment.

The Unit assessments and examinations are completed using a variety of methods and are submitted via our online student portal. They are open book, from either your home, office or classroom, and include multiple choice quizzes, short answer, calculations and exams.

Accounting unit assessments use MYOB Student version or Xero (both are supplied). For accounting software assessments simply upload copies of reports as PDFs from within your accounting package.

Exams

Some units include an exam component, which needs to be independently supervised. Exams are three-hour, open-book assessments comprising of short answer and multiple choice questions, very similar in format to the unit assessments.

Exams must be completed within your course duration period. Prior to your exam, you will need to complete and return the Supervisor Nomination Form to Applied Education detailing your supervisor's information, contact details and the elected date of your assessment.

Exams can be undertaken at any location and time of your choosing, with the only condition being that you have a nominated, independent supervisor present. Your supervisor can be a person of responsibility such as a registered tax agent, member of an accounting professional body, public servant, doctor, nurse, police officer, director etc. who does not have a close personal or professional relationship with you.

Depending on the course you choose and credit transfer, you will need:

• A reliable internet connection as all data files and learning activities are available via our Student Platform.
• Microsoft Word and Excel.
• A computer with a Microsoft Windows operating system^#, is need to complete the prerequisite unit FNSACC321.

^#Mac Users, Tablets and MYOB

MYOB software cannot be downloaded to tablets including Chromebooks and since 2020, and is not compatible with Apple’s operating system. If you only have access to a Mac computer, we recommend you first confirm if the following options are feasible on your computer:

• purchase and install on your mac a windows emulator such as "parallels" to run windows on a Mac at your own cost; or
• use the free inbuilt Mac Boot Camp Assistant on your Mac computer and purchase a Windows OS software licence.

Note: Applied Education and MYOB are unable to support issues relating to a Mac computer.

Units using Accounting software

• We will provide links and instructions to access MYOB Student Edition Software and Xero Demo Company.
• MYOB is used to complete FNSACC321.
• Xero is used to complete FNSACC322.
• FNSTPB411 and FNSTPB412 has course material and assessments in both Xero and MYOB. Students can choose which accounting software they would like to use to complete these units.

Depending on the university that you would like to attend, you may be eligible for credit towards entry to accounting & finance degrees.

For Curtin University, in WA, on successful completion of FNS50222 Diploma of Accounting you can receive up to 125 credit points for admission into the Bachelor of Commerce. More information is available on the Curtin Search for CRL website (by selecting ‘TAFE – Any Australian TAFE’ in Q3 of the filter).
