FNSSS00014 Accounting Principles Skill Set is assessed under the Principles of Competency-based training, students have to demonstrate their ability to do all activities in each Unit of Competency. There are 7 Units of Competency in this course.

  • FNSACC321 Process financial transactions and extract interim reports
  • FNSTPB412 Establish and maintain payroll systems
  • FNSTPB411 Complete business activity and instalment activity statements
  • FNSACC421 Prepare financial reports
  • FNSACC322 Administer subsidiary accounts and ledgers
  • FNSACC418 Work effectively in the accounting and bookkeeping industry

  • An administration fee of $100 is added for this option
  • A $250 deposit is processed at the commencement of course
  • Remainder is paid over 6 equal monthly instalments

Refund Policy

Refer to the Student Handbook for our refund policy. This course includes a non-refundable administration fee of $250.

We provide you with 12 months to complete the FNSSS00014 Accounting Principles Skill Set online.

The required study hours associated with this skill set are 560 hours and are based on someone who has little experience in the industry. You are more than welcome to complete your studies as fast as you would like.

We understand that students study in different ways. For the Accounting Principles Skill Set, we provide extensive learning material and resources to support you on your learning journey:

All course content, including assessments, is accessed via our online student portal. Hard copy manuals can be purchased at additional cost.

If required, hard copy manuals can be purchased at additional cost. Hard copies for FNSACC426, FNSTPB411 and FNSACC421 are purchased separately (approx. $220 ex postage) from an external publisher, full details are provided on enrolment. Hard copies for all other units are purchased directly from Applied Education ($160 incl postage).

Pre-course

Before starting, you will be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) questionnaire. This quick questionnaire is used to determine your LLN skill level so that we can best support you in your studies.

Introductory Requirements & Units

The Introductory Requirements include an Oral Communication Skills Assessment and a Work Health and Safety Assessment.

The Unit assessments and examinations are completed using a variety of methods and are submitted online via our student portal. They are conducted open book from either your home or office, and comprise theoretical and practical exercises.

Accounting unit assessments use a combination of MYOB and Xero (both are supplied).

Exams

Some units include an exam component, which needs to be independently supervised. Exams are three-hour, open-book assessments comprising of short answer and multiple choice questions, very similar in format to the unit assessments.

Exams must be completed within your course duration period. Prior to your exam, you will need to complete and return the Supervisor Nomination Form to Applied Education detailing your supervisor's information, contact details and the elected date of your assessment.

Exams can be undertaken at any location and time of your choosing, with the only condition being that you have a nominated, independent supervisor present. Your supervisor can be a person of responsibility such as a registered tax agent, member of an accounting professional body, public servant, doctor, nurse, police officer, director etc. who does not have a close personal or professional relationship with you.

If you cannot arrange a supervisor then we offer the following options for conducting your supervised assessment:

To complete all units in this course, you will need:

  • A reliable internet connection as all data files and learning activities are available via our student platform.
  • A computer with a Microsoft Windows operating system.#
  • Microsoft Word and Excel.

We will provide links and instructions to access MYOB Student Edition Software and Xero Demo Company.

# Mac Users, Tablets and MYOB
MYOB software cannot be downloaded to tablets including Chromebooks and since 2020, MYOB is not compatible with Apple’s operating system.

If you only have access to a Mac computer, we recommend you first contact Apple to confirm if the following options are feasible on your computer:

  • purchase and install on your mac a windows emulator such as "parallels" to run windows on a Mac at your own cost; or
  • use the free inbuilt Mac Boot Camp Assistant on your Mac computer and purchase a Windows OS software licence.

Note: Applied Education and MYOB are unable to support issues relating to a Mac computer.

Once you have completed the FNSSS00014 Accounting Principles Skill Set, you have the following options:

Diploma Of Accounting

  • Enrol in the FNS50222 Diploma of Accounting and only complete 8 units to gain the qualification.

Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping

  • OR enrol in the FNS40222 Certificate IV Accounting and Bookkeeping and only complete 7 units to gain the qualification.

Advanced Accounting Principles

  • OR enrol in the FNSSS00015 Advanced Accounting Principles Skill Set which has only 6 units of competence.
