Higher Level Skills Program

The Higher Level Skills (HLS) program is a Queensland Government initiative that will offset the cost of a Certificate III or higher course so that Queenslanders can gain advanced skills to secure employment or further their careers. This subsidy is available to Australian or New Zealand citizens, permanent residents, or temporary residents with the necessary visa.

To be eligible for the HLS, you:

  • must be a Queensland resident aged 15 years or older; and
  • are no longer at school; and
  • are an Australian or New Zealand citizen or Australian permanent resident; and
  • must not hold, or be currently enrolled in, a Certificate III or higher level qualification (not including qualifications completed at school)

Certificate III in Accounts Administration

You will have up to 12 months to complete the Certificate III in Accounts Administration. There is no minimum time frame to complete the course, therefore students may complete the course much faster than the allowed timeframe. Study at a pace that suits your personal situation.

The course may take up to 1200 hours of study and assessment time, particularly for those who are new to bookkeeping and accounting.

The FNS30317 Certificate III in Accounts Administration has been developed to give you flexibility so that you can study at your own pace, in your own time and in your own environment. Pre-course

Before starting this course, you will be required to complete a Language, Literacy and Numeracy (LLN) questionnaire. This quick questionnaire is used to determine your LLN skill level so that we can best support you in your studies.

Introductory Requirements & Units

The Introductory Requirements include a Communication Skills Assessment and a Work Health and Safety Assessment.

The Unit assessments are completed using a variety of methods and are submitted online via our student portal. They are conducted open book from either your home or office, and comprise of multiple choice quizzes, short answer, and calculations.

Accounting unit assessments use MYOB Student version which is include in the price of the course.

Pathways to further study are available!

Attain the FNS30317 Certificate III in Accounts Administration qualification, and you can then use some of the course units towards the FNS40217 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping. This is ideal if you are looking to become a BAS Agent in the future as the FNS40217 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping meets the education requirements for official BAS agent registration with the Tax Practitioners Board.

To complete all units in this course, you will need:

  • A reliable internet connection as all data files and learning activities are available via our student platform.
  • A computer with a Microsoft Windows operating system.#
  • Microsoft Word and Excel.

We will provide links and instructions to access MYOB Student Edition Software and Xero Demo Company.

# Mac Users, Tablets and MYOB
MYOB software cannot be downloaded to tablets including Chromebooks and since 2020, MYOB is not compatible with Apple’s operating system.

If you only have access to a Mac computer, we recommend you first contact Apple to confirm if the following options are feasible on your computer:

  • purchase and install on your mac a windows emulator such as "parallels" to run windows on a Mac at your own cost; or
  • use the free inbuilt Mac Boot Camp Assistant on your Mac computer and purchase a Windows OS software licence. For information regarding the Boot Camp Assistant software, please refer to Apple's support page; https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT201468
