Recognised Prior Learning (RPL)

If you already have accounting skills or experience, you can put them towards your formal Diploma of Accounting qualification.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process that assesses the individual’s formal and informal learning to determine the extent to which that individual has achieved the required learning or competency outcomes. All students have the opportunity to apply for RPL which incurs a non-refundable fee starting at $300. For more information on RPL and our fees, please refer to the Student Handbook.

With this option you will put together a portfolio of your work to demonstrate a good understanding of the learning outcomes in the course. You will still be able to access all of the resources available to online self-paced students.

We find that for many students, RPL is a more complex process than completing the self-paced study and doing the activities, unless you have sound experience in the units of study and are able to provide a portfolio of evidence.

You will have:

  • 12 months to complete Diploma of Accounting
  • 18 months for the Diploma of Accounting with tax electives

There is no minimum time frame, depending on familiarity with accounting concepts students may be able to complete their course sooner than the maximum time frame allowed.

However, this is a guide only. As an online course, the time it will take to complete is flexible and dependent on your ability, knowledge and time available. It is important that you choose a pace that suits your needs.

We understand that students study in different ways and we provide extensive learning material and resources to support you on your learning journey, including:

  • Course training manuals for each unit of competency
  • Summary Notes
  • Presentations
  • Learning Activities
  • Free Learning Bundle
  • Tax Summary Guide (available with your IFPA Student Membership)

Online study is a convenient, effective and affordable way to learn when and where you want.

We provide you with the following:

  • Quality learning materials and resources
  • Amazing Support from our assessors and student support team
  • Online assessments and exams
  • Student Facebook group

The FNS50222 Diploma of Accounting has been developed to give you flexibility so that you can study at your own pace, in your own time and in your own environment. The best part is, with Applied Education we provide a high level of support for all our students and are here with you in your study journey.

Pre-course

Introductory Requirements & Units

The Introductory Requirements include an Oral Communication Skills Assessment and a Work Health and Safety Assessment.

The Unit assessments and examinations are completed using a variety of methods and are submitted via our online student portal. They are open book, from either your home, office or classroom, and include multiple choice quizzes, short answer, calculations and exams.

Accounting unit assessments use MYOB Student version or Xero (both are supplied). For accounting software assessments simply upload copies of reports as PDFs from within your accounting package.

Exams

Some units include an exam component, which needs to be independently supervised. Exams are three-hour, open-book assessments comprising of short answer and multiple choice questions, very similar in format to the unit assessments.

Exams must be completed within your course duration period. Prior to your exam, you will need to complete and return the Supervisor Nomination Form to Applied Education detailing your supervisor's information, contact details and the elected date of your assessment.

Exams can be undertaken at any location and time of your choosing, with the only condition being that you have a nominated, independent supervisor present. Your supervisor can be a person of responsibility such as a registered tax agent, member of an accounting professional body, public servant, doctor, nurse, police officer, director etc. who does not have a close personal or professional relationship with you.

If you cannot arrange a supervisor, then we offer the following options for conducting your supervised assessment:
