To enrol in this course, you must

  • be at least 18 years old.
  • have basic proficiency in using Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • have completed of Australian Year 11 or equivalent; and
  • have a minimum IELTS Academic Test Score of 6.0 (with no band less than 5.0) or equivalent

Overview

Your learning journey is about becoming "competent" in the subject matter. Our in-house course writers and assessment team have accounting and bookkeeping experience or are currently working in the industry. With this in mind we try and make the tasks relevant to what you will experience in the real world. The purpose is not to just to pass assessments, rather to become competent using these skills which you can then apply in the real world.

There will be a combination of in-class assessments, at-home case studies and supervised exams. Unit assessments include:

  • Multiple Choice

You will have up to 18 months to complete the Accounting Course Package.

These courses are delivered through a combination of face-to-face classes and online learning. 

Classes are held between Mondays and Fridays, with 56 contact weeks and 24 hours per week.

Students are also expected to complete online study each week, including class assignments, preparation and research.

Students have full access to our Online Student Platform. All learning material and assessments are accessed via the platform.

The course content is accessed via our online student portal with comprehensive learning materials, including

  • Video tutorials covering key learning concepts
  • Digital textbooks, hard copies can be purchased at additional cost.
  • Exercise files, case studies and sample and reference documents
  • Free online learning short courses
  • Access to Accounting software, MYOB and Xero

To complete all units in this course, you will need:

  • A laptop with a Microsoft Windows operating system.#
  • A reliable internet connection for all out-of-class study as all data files and learning activities are available via our student platform.

We will provide links and instructions to access MYOB and Xero accounting software.

# Mac Users, Tablets and MYOB
MYOB software cannot be downloaded to tablets including Chromebooks and since 2020, MYOB is not compatible with Apple's operating system.

If you only have access to a Mac computer, we recommend you first contact Apple to confirm if the following options are feasible on your computer:

  • purchase and install on your mac a windows emulator such as "parallels" to run windows on a Mac at your own cost; or
  • use the free inbuilt Mac Boot Camp Assistant on your Mac computer and purchase a Windows OS software licence.

Note: Applied Education and MYOB are unable to support issues relating to a Mac computer.

Credit Transfer (CT)

If you have undertaken previous study in other accounting related courses, there is the possibility that some of these units may be eligible for a CT towards this qualification. If you wish to apply for a credit transfer, you must inform us before you enrol.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)

All students have the opportunity to apply for RPL which incurs a non-refundable fee.

If you are ready have bookkeeping skills or experience, they may be counted towards your Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping qualification. You will be requested to put together a portfolio of your work to demonstrate a good understanding of the learning outcomes in the course. The portfolio will contain files such as payroll and BAS information, along with letters and reports that you currently use on a day-to-day basis.

We find that for many students, RPL is a more complex process than completing the course and doing the activities which is more straight forward process than RPL, unless you have sound experience in all the units of study and are able to provide a portfolio of evidence.

You will receive a 24-month student membership to the Institute of Certified Bookkeepers (RRP $132) at no additional cost.

The FNS40222 Certificate IV in Accounting and Bookkeeping is ideal for anyone looking to enter into the bookkeeping or accounting industries, and is also a TPB-approved BAS agent course.

It is the perfect preparation for anyone seeking a career as a professional bookkeeper, BAS agent or payroll officer. The course meets the education requirements of the Tax Practitioners Board for registration as a BAS agent, and covers topics such as:

  • Managing day to day bookkeeping function such as accounts payable and receivable
  • Completing the Business Activity Statements (BAS) and other obligations such as Superannuation and Payroll
  • Basic Management and Operational reporting such as Profit & Loss, Balance Sheets and Trial Balance
  • Proficient use of Accounting Software including MYOB and Xero from setup to trial balance

On completion of the Diploma of Accounting you will meet the entry requirements for

  • FNS60222 Advanced Diploma of Accounting.
  • Articulation with Sheridan College
  • any undergraduate university courses requiring a 70 ATAR score. You must also have IELTS Academic Test Score of 6 or above, we work closely with our English School partner to support you in achieve the necessary IELTS score.

Depending on the university that you would like to attend, you may be eligible for credit towards entry to accounting & finance degrees.

For Curtin University, in WA, on successful completion of FNS50222 Diploma of Accounting you can receive up to 125 credit points for admission into the Bachelor of Commerce. More information is available on the Curtin Search for CRL website (by selecting 'TAFE - Any Australian TAFE' in Q3 of the filter).
